Brunna Xavier Martins, Canada

Research Fellow
Cell Biollogy
The Hospital for Sick Children
Brunna Martins is a post-doctoral fellow in Dr. Blayne Sayed’s laboratory in the Cell Biology Program at the Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute in Toronto, Canada. She obtained her PhD in Bioscience and Biotechnology from the State University of Northern Rio de Janeiro-Brazil (UENF) in 2017 and then completed a post-doctoral fellowship with Dr. Façanha at UENF in 2021. During her doctoral and postdoctoral training as a Cell biologist at UENF, Brunna’s research focused on understanding the mechanisms and implications of Bioenergetics and membrane potential disruption in the context of Cancer research. She joined Dr. Sayed’s lab in 2021 to study the contributions of lytic cell death to hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury. Specifically, Brunna’s work is aimed at elucidating the role of inflammatory cell death, which is characterized by active plasma membrane rupture, in driving the acute phases of hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury as well as the subsequent immune remodeling.
